This last game was arguably the worst of the season, coincidentally or not, Cristiano Ronaldo was absent. Sergio Ramos and Pepe were too. Our statistics were very poor in attack despite every single one of our attackers, except Morata, played.
Callejon got the full 90 minutes, Di Maria and Higuain got 58, Modric 68, Karim 32, Mesut, 22 and well, Kaka got a few. All of them got a total of 4 shots and only one of them was on target. Xabi Alonso, Varane and Coentrao got 5 shots together despite playing in more defensive positions. So far in this 2012-13 Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo has averaged 7.7 shots per game which got me thinking, where would we be without Cristiano this season? I saw on Twitter a split, as always, of people saying that the game would have been no different with Cristiano on the pitch and those who believed otherwise were simple Cristiano-blinded fans. On the other side I saw others believing that a special one could have changed the course of the game.
A fan or not, here are the numbers that Real Madrid would have achieved so far in this 2012-13 season sans Cristiano.
(Needless to say a player would replace Cristiano and could arguably achieve a different result however because I can’t hypothetically make a player up, this are the numbers without Cristiano’s goals or assists)
So, is there a Ronaldodependence?
First things first, La Supercopa, the Spanish Supercup. Without both of Cristiano’s goals we would have needed a bit more calma to see Barcelona lift the cup with an global score of 4-2.
Let’s move onto the Champions League. The group of death where we ended 2nd. Without CR we would have achieved 1 point at home against Manchester City (his last minute winner earned us 3 instead), 1 point away against Ajax (his hattrick earned us a 4-1 win instead), still 0 points in Germany, 1 point at home v Dortmund, 1 point at Manchester and 3 points at home against Ajax. This would give us a total of 7 points rather than 11 we achieved however we STILL would have moved onto the next round.
Let’s look at Copa del Rey 2012-13 now…
The two legged win against Alcoyano was a “walk in the park” for Real Madrid. However, the match up against Celta was a bit different. Every single one of the 5 goals Real Madrid scored in the two games against Celta had the influence of Cristiano. 4 of them were scored by him whilst the very last one by Sami Khedira was assisted by him.
Copa del Rey 2013.
Now the most extensive competition of them all. La Liga.
Right now we sit at 37 points with 11 W- 4 D- 4 L in 19 games
Real Madrid without Cristiano would have 28 points and would be sitting 8th place in La Liga just under Levante, out of the European zone and 12 points away from relegation. Real Madrid would be closer from the last place Osasuna, to the second place Atletico de Madrid.
These 9 points of RM v RM CR7 were lost in the game against FC Barcelona where Ronaldo’s goals earned 1 point. In the game v Levante where CR’s first goal helped earned the three points. Against Atletico where he scored one and assisted one for the 2-0 win. Against Espanyol he also scored and assisted and against Real Sociedad he helped in the 4-3 win with 2 goals. The games against FC Barcelona, Espanyol and Real Sociedad would have been lost without him while the games against Atleti and Levante would have ended in a draw otherwise.
Copa del Rey. La Liga. Champions League. Spanish SuperCup.
Cristiano Ronaldo (174) has scored 39% of Real Madrid’s (448) goals in the 172 official games he has played since his arrival
