Post-Game: Real Madrid 3-1 Real Betis

Another game, another victory! Make that 40 undefeated games at the Bernabeu straight!

Calma, Diego! Diego Lopez had yet again, a magnificent game. The penalty expert got a touch on the ball but unfortunately he could not stop it from hitting the back of the net. That makes it 17 goals conceded by Diego in 17 games since he came back to the team he grew up in. Diego received 7 shots on target from the Betis players yet he managed to deny 6 of them, not too shabby… huh?

Since returning to Real Madrid, Diego Lopez has received 76 shots on target in his 17 games and has only conceded 17 goals. That makes out an average of 1 goal conceded per 4.47 shots received.. again, not too shabby! Gracias Diego.

There were two negative things that came out of the game today…

First, Marcelo got injured. Pur qué?! Just as he was almost back into shape, Marcelo had to leave to pitch injured and he is expected to be out for a month. Marcelo always manages to smile even during the rain, but this time, his smile was no where to be found. We all feel for him… Hopefully he will be back earlier than expected. Oh 2013…. Unlucky 13….

The second bad “note” of the game – does not at all compare in gravity to Marcelo’s injury was Cristiano. I am not talking about his performance as he was the man of the match as per the media, but today, he ended the possibility of achieving yet another personal record. In the 2011-12 Liga, Cristiano became the first player in the history of La Liga to ever score against all rivals in a single season. This season, he had Athletic, Betis, Valladolid, Malaga and Osasuna left to achieve it for a second season straight. Unfortunately, the 90 minutes are up and Cristiano has failed to score on Real Betis in both home and away games of the 2012-13 season.

How about Casemiro and Nacho?

Let’s go by parts. Casemiro had a great debut. He has had very little play time since his arrival in Spain for which magic cannot be asked. He was very participatory especially in the first half. He suffered the most fouls out of anyone in the game, 87% pass success and managed to shoot twice, once on target. Not bad, not bad.

Nacho had a great game. He was undoubtedly (sorry Raul) the best defender on the pitch. An amazing 10 interceptions and 9 clearances were made by the 23 year old in his role as a right wing. He only committed one foul which led to him receiving a yellow. Of course I am talking about the unfortunate penalty he provoked. No controversy, it was a badly timed tackle. There are stats that are curious and the one linked to Nacho’s name is interesting. As pointed out by 2010MisterChip (if you speak Spanish, stop what you’re doing and follow him), every single time Nacho has started at the Bernabeu, one Real Madrid player has left the pitch injured. So far Albiol, Coentrão and Marcelo have been the “victims”.

Good to see Karim Benzema be back in the scoring sheet and with a huge smile on his face. He scored and assisted Mesut’s first goal while Ozil scored a brace and surpassed his personal record of goals scored at Real Madrid in a single season.

Speaking of Benzema… I’ve worked out a couple of interesting numbers. Did you know Karim Benzema has not seen a yellow or red card this season with Real Madrid? Not just that, he ended the 2011-12 season without seeing one either! That add ups to 92 games without seeing a card for Monsieur Benzema! Is it a French thing? Glad you asked! Raphael Varane aka Mister Clean (Monsieur Propre 😉 – sounds sexier) has only received ONE yellow card in his 42 appearances with Real Madrid. HE IS A DEFENDER. HE IS 19. HE HAS FACED THE BEST OF THE BEST. Who did he get the booking against? Alcoyano.

Here is how Varane’s only ever yellow card was narrated 11 minutes into a game that we would end up winning 1-4

Varane picks up the match’s first yellow card as he leaves an elbow in on Torres. It looked fairly accidental but nevertheless, Alcoyano now have a free kick in a dangerous area

and here is the picture…

Anyway! Merci for taking the time to read my latest post! Have a good Dimanche (Sunday en francais – here you read about footie and learn a language 2×1).

Hala Madrid!

Nice article thanks for sharing this information! Love this. Can you write about Casillas & Mou & ultras in bernabeu, i heard they are all against san iker is that true? Thanks gorgeous^^

    • rmadridgirl says:

Yes, they were chanting against Casillas. I’d rather not talk about Iker-Mourinho just because of how controversial and highly emotional the topic is though. For me, it is hard to say Mourinho “hates” Iker and that’s why he is not playing as some suggest when Diego Lopez is showing game after game, how fantastic he is. Today, yet again, he had an spectacular game. There is nothing out there that does not suggest Iker is on the bench right now simply because Diego has done nothing wrong if you know what I mean? Maybe I’ve made it confusing but I hope you get what I’m trying to say. I’ll try to find a video of the chants and post it tomorrow 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment!

    Bonjour! Comment ça va?
First things first: Deigo Lopez proves everyday that he is GREAT!! I loved the greeting between Casillas and Deigo before the match! Take that Haters.
OK, now we have a big problem! Deigo has been outstanding and Casillas is … Casillas, he is now fit, in a great shape (Mou’s words). It is not an issue this season, but what about next season? Is it true that one of them has to leave? 😦 I hope this will be solved!
Marcelo 😦 I really hope he will be able to catch the final (isA, we will qualify)
Nacho’s mistake … he is still young. His stats are great! 😉
We have a very promising Back line! El7
Unfortunately Cristiano will not be able to make a new record this season. Nevertheless he has been GREAT today, a true Captain.
Cristiano and Ozil switched roles today! I love the chemistry between these two 😀
    Varannneee, Je l’aime beaucoup!
    Sorry that was long! hehe
It is currently 1:12 am here so Bonne Nuit!
    Keep It Up! 🙂
    Until next time isA! 😀

When I read your first sentence I thought your whole comment would be in French and I freaked out! Heh … I’ve read that one of them “has” to leave which I really hope is a rumor or else it’s highly childish on both of them. They’re not just “a” coach and “a” player.. they’re two of the very best in their position and to think they would be that unprofessional would be very disappointing. Have a good night ! See you next time

  4. suhail says:

I think ronaldo still has a chance of setting a bigger record that is scoring 15 goals in the UCL,and I just wish nd hope Mou stays next season coz if he left Madrid will be in trouble am certain of it.Halamadrid….

    • rmadridgirl says:

Well, he needs four more and there are three games to be played (see what I did there?). It will be challenging due to the rivals to come but if anyone can do it.. that man is CR7. Cheers!

  5. well about that chant thing the ultras sur posted this on their fb page which i suppose u can translate for us
Algunos Cules Disfrazados De Madridistas Buscan Desestabilizar Al Real Madrid ,Casillas Es Nuestro Capitan Y La Prensa Es Una Mierda Al Acusar Al Grupo!Y Busquen Otro Modo De Hacer Pasta Cabrones!

    apparently this translates to
“Some Catalans disguised as Real Madrid seek to destabilize Real Madrid, Casillas is our captain and the press sucks by accusing the Group! And look for another way to make Pasta bastards!”

now i dont know whats true whats not because some said that there were chants from ultras sections “Casillas is the rat, Casillas leave” to which the rest of the Bernabeu booed them.

but journalists like sid lowe, phil ricci confirmed on twitter that none of them heard anything against fact phil was watching the game from ultra surs’ section only..others are suggesting that its again the slimy work of manolo lama the prick..

hope u can find out what actually happened 🙂

  6. It’s going to be ending of mine day, but before end I am reading this impressive piece of writing to increase my know-how.
